Captain Leon Gelman, 1928-2009, RIP

"By direction of the President of the United States, Second Lieutenant Leon Gelman has been awarded the First Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal in lieu of an additional Air Medal. Second Lieutenant Leon Gelman performed meritorious service while participating in aerial flight as navigator-bombardier of a B-26 attack bomber from 29 April 1951 through 25 May 1951 in sustained operations against Communist forces in Korea. Flights were made regardless of the time of day or night, weather conditions, or enemy opposition encountered. Through his unusual ability, courage, and devotion to duty, Second Lieutenant Gelman has brought great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force. In total, Second Lieutenant Gelman flew 56 successful combat missions over Korea."
